Workshop: Feeling beyond touch

In this workshop we will dive deep into how rope can be more than just a physical interaction. We will focus on listening to our partners and to the ropes, while discovering how subtle signals can guide you. This gives more freedom and control. Our goal is to make rope less abstract, with a proper balance between feeling and technical aspects. We aim to give new tools and insights that can directly be applied in your scene.

Some more concrete subjects we want to cover:

  • How reactions lead the scene
  • Feel how a body responds, not just how rope is applied
  • Moving away from more traditional styles

Presenters

@Lokka (she/her) is a growing teacher and has been the main host of the @AlmeerseRopeJam since October 2021. As a rope switch and selftyer, she began by teaching solely from the model’s side, and is now expanding into the role of teaching rigger and selftyer. Her style is mostly improvised, supported by a strong technical foundation.

When tying with a partner, her focus is on the connection, not the rope. Rope becomes a shared language, a medium through which something intimate and magical can unfold. She ties with someone because she wants to spend time with them, the rope sort of happens to be there and with it, together they create magic. Whether standing as a model or being closer to the floor as a rigger, she enjoys the dynamics that floorwork brings her.

@Rozyl (he/him) started his rope journey early 2022 as a bottom. After learning to appreciate the flow and dynamic of one rope play, he started rigging himself. His style focusses on floorwork with a lot of movement, playing with balance and intimacy. He sees rope as an extension of his body and as a medium to let somebody feel like they are being held. More recently he has been playing around with incorporating judo movements in ropes.

For whom

This workshop is intended for those that want to learn or improve their dynamic way of tying. This workshop is floor-only and there will be information provided for riggers, but certainly for the models as well; or, as we want to put it: tori and uke (giving and receiving). The broadness of the workshop makes it a great learning experience for those that are still finding their preferred style, as well as give another layer to those that want to dive deeper into a more interactive and dynamic style.

Our style of teaching incorporates a lot of small exercises which don't give much room for switching. It is allowed, but there won't be enough time for both people to do the exercises, so managing your own time is necessary.

Requirements

  • A partner with whom you are comfortable sharing physical, and for some, possibly emotionally closeness with (r/m)
  • Being able to communicate your physical abilities and emotional boundaries (r/m);
  • Comfortable moving around on the floor and preferably also on your feet (r/m);
  • Comfortable clothing that allow you to move (r/m – preferably snug fitting);
  • At least 2x 8m of rope – preferably jute or hemp (r);
  • Fluent execution of a sustainable single and double column tie (r);
  • Basic understanding of frictions (r);
  • Pre: good rope handling skills (r).

If you have any doubts or questions about whether or not you meet the requirements, please feel free to send a message to @Lokka.

The location offers tea, coffee, soda and beer for reasonable prices that can be paid by cash or card. These are not included in the ticket price. It is allowed to bring your own snacks and water.

The space is accessible by wheelchair, just like the toilets.

Ticket sale - starts October 14th at 20:00 hours via Eventix.

The link where tickets can be bought at the announced time can be found on fetlife. Tickets are bought as a couple. There are 10 tickets available.

Price tickets

By hosting our regular rope jams, we have created a financial buffer for giving back to the community. We have done this by organizing the drawing rope event back in November 2023 - and paying the artist, model and rigger without raising the ticket price for our attendees, and by hosting Haag & Pendragon back in November 2024. We have donated a carpet to the venue, since they are used not only to tie on, but also to regulate sound during other events. For this workshop at rope013, the ticket prices have been reduced so it’s more accessible - but Lokka & Rozyl will receive their standard fee.

Following the good initiative of others, we offer two tickets. The sliding scaled pricing is there to make the workshop accessible for everyone. SupporteD tickets for those with less financial resources and Regular tickets with the normal price. Selecting a ticket does not require an explanation.

Ticket pool

At the same time a ticket pool will be created on our profile as a discussion in this event. So, looking for ticket? Place a comment on the writing. Ticket for sale? Place a comment on the writing as well.

Important note: If tickets are swapped: the original owner needs to send us an email at ropejam013@gmail.com with the details, and the nickname and email address of the new owner so we can adjust our guest list. Please do not send us personal private messages: regular life also happens, and messages will go lost.
