We are very happy to announce the first part in our couples series! This course will revolve around the basics. This will be the first time we do this in this format and we don’t have a sequel planned as of yet, but it will be there soon!

The dates for this course are 24 September, 1, 8 and 15 October. Tickets are only available for all days and you are expected to attend each date. You cannot buy separate tickets and there won’t be any catch-up possibilities.

Teachers

@Lokka (she/her) is based in Hilversum and has a passion for rope since early 2021. In that same year, she started her own jam and two years later started teaching. Her teaching focuses a lot on selftying, where in the last two years she has also expanded towards more coupled movement and dynamic floorwork classes.

As a rigger, selftyer, and model, she brings multiple perspectives into her teaching. Her style is mostly improvised, supported by a strong technical foundation.

When tying with a partner, her focus is on the connection. Rope becomes a shared language, a medium through which something intimate and magical can unfold. She ties with someone because she wants to be close with them, the rope is only a means of achieving that. Whether standing as a model or being closer to the floor as a rigger, she enjoys the dynamics that floorwork brings her.

@Rozyl (he/him) started his rope journey early 2022 as a bottom. After learning to appreciate the flow and dynamic of one rope play, he started rigging himself. His style focuses on floorwork with a lot of movement, playing with balance and intimacy. He sees rope as an extension of his body and as a medium to let somebody feel like they are being held.

As partners both in life and in rope, Lokka and Rozyl teach in a dynamic, collaborative way, frequently switching roles to offer multiple perspectives on different techniques they cover. They also share their real-time experiences from the viewpoint of the model, creating a learning environment where both sides of the rope receive attention and value.

Location

The venue is in Hilversum of which you will get the address of once you have bought a ticket. Parking can be a bit hard, as the reviews of the parking garage closest by are not good and better ones are at an 8 minutes walk. Hilversum Station is also 10 minutes away by foot.

When you arrive at the building, the entrance is near the bike parking. The door is locked, so someone will be awaiting you there.

We truly love the space, it has an amazing layout. The downside however is that the space is located at the 5th floor and there is NO LIFT, making the venue quite inaccessible. The spiral staircase has some space to rest in between floors if needed.

The temperature in the space can be a bit hard to manage, so it would be wise to bring both warm and cold clothing. Mats are provided.

For whom

This workshop is suitable for those who are completely new to rope, as well as for those looking to move beyond recreating harnesses found online. There will be a lot of information for both riggers and models.

The focus not only lies on having fun with one another, but also understanding basic rope techniques and handling. Even those already familiar with the basics can expect to discover new insights and deepen their practice.

Requirements

  • Awareness of and being able to communicate your own physical abilities and emotional boundaries;
  • Comfortable being physically close to each other;
  • 3x 8m of rope – preferably jute or hemp (you can buy jute @Ellipsis ropes at the event as well - €50 per 3x 8m – let us know in advance) (r);
  • 2 blindfolds;
  • Comfortable clothing (preferably close-fitting for those getting tied).

If you have any doubts or questions about whether or not you meet the requirements, please feel free to send a message to @Lokka.

Schedule

For each date this is the schedule:

  • 18:30 Door opens
  • 19:00 Start tuition
  • 20:30 - 20:50 Break (estimate)
  • 22:30 End tuition

At 19:00 the tuition actually starts, so be on time (keeping in mind the stairs). If for whatever reason you’ve been delayed, send @Lokka a message before 19:00 so that we can take this into account.

Content

Amongst other things, we will dive into:

  • How to build a scene
  • Single column tie
  • Safety
  • Communicatino in rope
  • Frictions
  • A lot of rope handling
  • Basic body handling

Blindfolds will be part of this workshop, as we believe that you can do a lot blind. If you are not comfortable with this, you don’t have to. However, learning new things while only being able to feel instead of see, brings out a whole different dimension. Thus it’s highly recommend participating with a blindfold, but obviously no-one is forced.

By the end of this workshop you will have a solid base to use for basic practice. You will be able to have a fun session with a partner without needing a lot of technical skills.

The workshop will be taught in English unless all participants speak Dutch.

Tickets

There are 6 tickets available for this workshop, priced at €275 per couple. There are also supporteR (€300) and supporteD (€200) tickets available. Because of the supporteR tickets, the supporteD tickets are possible.

Send a message to @Lokka to apply and receive the ticket link. If the price is (one of) the reason(s) to not come, please let us know so that we can find a solution together. Paying in installments is possible, as long as the full amount is received before the start of the course.

If for whatever reason you cannot come anymore, there is no refund policy and finding a new ticket holder is your own responsibility. Once you’ve found a new ticket holder, let us know, so the guestlist can be adjusted.

Food/drinks

There will be coffee and tea available and some (vegan) snacks throughout the day. Feel free to bring your own.
